Japan: ceremony for Best Jeanist held
Japan Jeans Association (JJA) recently held the thirty-eighth edition of its annual Best Jeanist awards ceremony in Tokyo, a prize-giving initiative which celebrates individuals in the public eye who radiate “jeans spirit”.

Anime voice acting star Megumi Hayashibara took home the JJA’s selection award (chosen by association members) alongside comedian and television presenter Koji Higashino. A delighted Ms Hayashibara told local media: “Even though I love denim, I never imagined I’d be receiving this award, so this is an uplifting and very, very, very happy moment.”

Meanwhile, singer and actor Ren Nagase and actress and fashion model Yuko Araki (pictured) each received prizes awarded through open voting in the general election category. Skateboarder Yuto Horigome, an Olympic gold medal winner, was recognised in the “global special” category.

President and chief operating officer of Itochu Corporation, Keita Ishii, also received a “special contribution” prize on behalf of his company for the business’ implementation of a “de-suit” day, during which working in jeans and sneakers is reportedly recommended.
