Circle Book #3 expands its outlook
An exercise in devising circular solutions for denim products, the Circle Book has expanded its scope for its third edition, officially presented at Kingpins Amsterdam. “Twelve companies are now a part of this collaborative project,” Lucia Rosin, Medeia founder and head of the project tells Inside Denim. In addition to its supplier and manufacturer partners, Tencel, Officina39, TYH (a knitter), Royo, Ereks Blue Matters, Calik Denim, Crafil (sewing threads), Global Denim and Nexgen (labels), two companies, Apxpress (which supplied the mushroom based label) and 4sustainability, have joined as supporting members.

Another new feature of the Circle Book’s third edition was an open call for designers to participate. Design is an essential feature of circularity and it is good to have differing points of view, said Ms Rosin. Three design teams thus joined the programme in addition to Medeia. Lucia Chain, from Argentina, the Rén Collective, based in Turin, Italy, and design duo Anatt Finkler and Vanessa Troice, based in Mexico, each developed a line within the collection.

The collaborative and circular concept embraced a third new goal this year: to highlight the potential of on-demand manufacturing using the technology and expertise of Ereks Blue Matters. The Turkey-based sustainable garment manufacturer is developing processes designed to be as close to market demand as possible, these include laser printing on fabric instead of on a finished garment. “This is the logic that we want to promote, digital technologies offer customisation and personalisation possibilities that have yet to be fully explored. We are not talking about tailor-made clothes, but of a new thinking which could be about grouping orders together,” she said.
