Social & environmental focus for La Materia conference

The yearly conference, with 2022 being its third edition, seeks to address the limited access to information of Mexico-based designers and companies, the organisers said. Materia founder and director Veronica Lopez is also careful to cover not only the ecological impact of fashion but also its human and social dimension.
The first day of the two-day event is dedicated to social topics and opens with a panel talk on cultural appropriation, an issue that top designers including Ralph Lauren and Carolina Herrera have recently been accused of.
The second day will cover environmental issues including water stress, textile waste and innovation in textiles.
Prior editions of the event, in 2021, attracted 200+ participants and in 2020, 70+, the organisers said.
