Outland recertifies with 43% higher B Corp score
After recertifying as a B Corporation (B Corp) at the end of last year, Australian brand Outland Denim has seen its score increase by 43% to 160.2 points from an initial rating of 111.5.
Only companies who obtain a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above can qualify for B Corp status.
Outland was also recognised as a 'Best for the World' company in terms of its community impact, having ranked within the top 5% of B Corp businesses in the 10-49 employees size group.
The label’s chief executive, James Bartle, initially founded the business in 2011 as a way to offer Cambodian women who have faced exploitation with meaningful and “holistic” support, training and employment. Outland Denim thus operates its own vertical production and finishing site in the country, where it pursues resource-saving technologies and works to incorporate more sustainable raw materials, such as dyeing denims with natural clay pigments, for example.
Mr Bartle called his team's recertification results "hugely encouraging" and emphasised that the brand has "worked extremely hard" to have a positive impact since its inception, particularly regarding those it employs.
