Kingpins to stage Colombian catch-up this month

International denim show Kingpins will play host to a panel discussion and industry networking event, complete with live music, in Medellín, Colombia, on January 24.
The occasion signals the platform’s commitment to exploring new opportunities for responsibly made denim in South America, it said.
Videos of recent shows in New York City and Amsterdam, plus installations of collaborative projects like Circle Book #3, will bring a taste of what Kingpins is all about to local players during the invitation-only evening, marketed as Kingpins Noche de Experiencia.
Event sponsors include manufacturers CI Jeans and Fabricato, plus denim wash and finishing specialists Prointex and Pelco, all based in Colombia, plus Austria-based manmade cellulosic fibre producer Lenzing, chemicals company Officina39 and machinery maker Tonello, both headquartered in Italy.
Fashion consultant Catalina Marín will moderate conversation between CI Jeans owner Tomas Navarro, Fabricato vice-president Carlos Alberto Ochoa Vallejo, technical director for Lenzing fibre brand Tencel in Latin America, Gilberto Campanatti, Tonello area sales manager Laura Dagli Orti and chief executive at Officina39, Andrea Venier.
“Our goal is to connect the global denim community and inspire everyone to continually pioneer best practices for people and planet,” commented Kingpins’ managing director and global sales manager, Vivian Wang. “It has been a long-held dream to expand our reach to Latin America and [this event] is a significant step in that direction.”
The next Kingpins show will take place in Amsterdam’s SugarCity from April 12 to 13, followed by another New York edition over July 19-20. Its final Amsterdam exhibition for this year will run from October 18 through 19.
