Denim supports Bangladeshi ‘nation branding’ in Amsterdam

An innovation-themed runway show by Bangladeshi producer Pacific Jeans was among the highlights from “nation-branding event” Best of Bangladesh in Europe, which was held in Amsterdam over September 4-5.

Organiser Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) said its intention was to present the country as a destination for “producing high-end, sustainable and innovative apparel”.

Local denim luminary Mostafiz Uddin, BAE’s founder and chief executive, echoed these sentiments when he described the showcase as “a testament to Bangladesh’s ability in sustainable and responsible manufacturing”.

The event, which drew 35-plus businesses to Amsterdam, also saw BAE sign three memoranda of understanding: one with Eindhoven International Project Office, another with the Apparel Impact Institute and still one more with Oxfam. Bangladesh’s state minister for foreign affairs, Shahriar Alam, said so many domestic companies had made the trip “to tap into [the] niche technology or innovation [of their] Dutch or European peers”.
