In spinning, the number of short-staple spindles shipped decreased 40%. China, India, Turkey, Bangladesh, Egypt and Indonesia were the largest investors in this segment, but last year the only geographic zones were deliveries increased was South America (+1.7% to 82.6 thousand) and Eastern Europe (+12% to 10.5 thousand). Open end rotors experienced a similar dip (-39%), with some 623,000 units delivered. Shipments were down across all major destination countries except for Vietnam and Bangladesh, the organisation said.
Shipments of texturing equipment (used mainly for synthetics) were up in 2024, according to ITMF. With 84,000 units delivered, single heater draw-texturing spindles increased by 95%, the vast majority (98.5%) going to Asia and Oceania. Shipments of double heater draw-texturing spindles increased by 80% to 960,000 units, with China alone accounting for 95% of these.
Deliveries of weaving looms increased globally by 32% to 226,000 units, with air-jet and water-jet machines up (10% and 56% respectively) and rapier and projectile down (7%). In knitting, deliveries of circular knitting machines fell by 15% (28,000 units) while flat knitting equipment was up 16% (135,000 units).
Finally, companies making finishing equipment reported ‘mixed results’ said ITMF. The number of beam dyeing/jigger dyeing units shipped dropped by 44% (to 371 units). But air jet dyeing and overflow dyeing machines were up, as were stenters (+22% to 1,833 units).
