Tonello completes the Laundry (R)Evolution

Machinery maker Tonello has presented the final chapter of its Laundry (R)Evolution with a new line of dryers, developed and manufactured in-house.
The eight models are engineered for energy efficiency, and feature high-permeability drums for faster drying, optimised airflow for reduced consumption and inverter-controlled transmission systems that adapt to custom recipes. “Many companies are looking for energy efficiency, so we focused on improving the heat and heat recovery,” Tonello’s marketing and sustainability manager, Alberto Lucchin, told us.
All models are compatible with heat pump integration, for improvements in energy efficiency and emissions reduction compared with traditional heating technologies.
The dryers ‘complete’ the Laundry (R)Evolution system, working alongside the All-in-One machines (which include the NoStone, Core, UP and ECOfree 2 technologies) and THE Laser system. At Kingpins, Tonello showed a collection produced using this fully integrated system. For each garment, its software system Metro produced real-time data for water and energy usage. “We can now give the true data for a single garment, instead of calculating with an algorithm. Drying is a very important step,” added Mr Luccin.
The Italian company has also expanded its Sulfur Essence collection, powered by ‘DyeMate: the world’s first indigo garment dyeing system’, to make it suitable for sulphur and vat dyes. The new collection features blends of sulphur and indigo in the same bath. “Last year, we presented the coloured denim, this time we are working with different fabrics and colours, we can achieve nice contrasts and features, where the sulphur colour stands out.”
Alongside this, at Kingpins, Tonello presented Engineered Illusions spotlighting THE Laser 2.0’s laser-only finishing effects that replicate traditional treatments like washing effects, textures, creases and ozone fading. The laser work was also on shown in ‘The Boxes’ installation space in the show’s foyer (pictured) – highlighting the precision of the laser techniques.
Mr Lucchin added that one of the company’s strengths was its ability to keep innovating – even if it is before the market is ready. “For example, when we first developed the NoStone technology [using an abrasive plate inside the machine rather than pumice stones] with Levi’s in 2013, we were perhaps too early. But now, lots of brands have moved away from stones.” It is this ability to innovate and predict market needs ahead of time that positions Tonello well for the future, he added.
