Could this be the oldest pair of Levi’s?

Denim collectors and historians have been debating whether a recently discovered pair of jeans could be the first known pair of Levi’s, potentially from the 1870s-1880s.

The jeans, called Tombstone (after the location of the museum they were originally housed in, in Arizona), are made of duck canvas, have some plain rivets and one with Levi’s branding, an unusual tool pocket and a bullhorn arcuate (pattern on the pocket).

Denim historian Mohsin Sajid, who saw the jeans - presented by prolific collector Brit Eaton - at the recent Inspiration Tokyo show, suggested the pair is worth around $200,000 but that Levi’s has not commented on whether it is authentic and the first pair. He added the current owner is thought to be a collector from Japan.
