Royo and Hyosung team up for 100% recycled fabric
Spanish textiles maker Teijodos Royo is close to producing a denim fabric made of 100% recycled content, subject to tests.

The fabric contains Hyosung’s Creora Regen, a recycled spandex made from 100% post industrial waste.

Royo director Jose Royo said: “Our aim is to have the most sustainable fabric in the world. We started with the dye technology [read about the DryIndigo foam process here], and we’re saving millions of litres of water, so we are happy with that, but we wanted a 100% recycled fabric .”

The fabric will first be approved by its longstanding customers and then be ready for the market by April, “if everything goes as planned”.

Hyosung’s marketing director for textiles, Mike Simco, said there has been lots of innovation on the fibre side in the past few years and that now is “a very exciting time to work in textiles”.

He added that they were also seeing extra benefits to its 3D Max yarn, launched last year, such as cost benefits and improvements with lasers, and a reduction in the need for polyester.

He also touted a new partially bio-based Creora elastane that is made from 30% bio-sourced content from dent corn as a sustainable alternative for customers.

The companies were speaking at the Kingpins24 Flash event.
