Dior gets denim happy in Tokyo

Parisian luxury fashion house Christian Dior has celebrated the in-store launch of its spring-summer 2021 collection with a denim-heavy pop-up boutique inside the Isetan department store in Tokyo.
Artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri presented a deeply indigo-infused accessories and ready-to-wear collection for spring-summer.
As if echoing her more relaxed take on the season, the pop-up’s exterior and interior walls, rugs and surfaces have all been papered and peppered with real denim in a variety of washes to herald the beginning of spring with wearable styles that maintain the “excellence of savoir-faire” so prized at Dior.
“For a long time, there was a moment in fashion when clothes had to have a dialogue with other people, to express your opinion to other people. At this moment in time, I think it’s more about a personal relationship with ourselves. You want to take care of yourself. I feel that, so I think other people need that feeling too,” the designer told Vogue upon first showing the collection last year.
Creative visual merchandising director at Dior, Luca Albero, described his team’s work on the Isetan project as “an incredible job”.
