Garmon establishes Chinese fashion laboratory

Garmon Chemicals (Garmon), a San Marino-based textile auxiliaries unit of Kemin Industries which specialises in the manufacturing of chemicals for denim processing, recently celebrated the opening of its Garmon Studio fashion laboratory in the Chinese city of Jiangmen, Guangdong province.
Garmon Studio China is the first applications laboratory that Kemin Textile Auxiliaries has opened outside of San Marino, a press release said.
The move not only renders the studio in relatively close proximity to the wider company’s Zhuhai regional headquarters, but also stands to mitigate against previously encountered language barriers and travel restrictions by establishing a Garmon presence nearer to its local and regional customers, including denim mills and laundries.
Garmon’s designers will more easily be able to respond to ever-evolving domestic trends from within China, the release expanded. The company further envisages its locally based technicians, which it said it would provide with “the most modern equipment available”, being able to research, develop and experiment with its products on the ground.
To mark the Jiangmen-based studio’s opening, Garmon has created a pair of denim jeans (pictured) inspired by the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of official relations between San Marino and the current Chinese government.
Made from natural cotton and hemp fibre fabric sourced from China's Advance Denim, the smart foam (a proprietary water-saving technology from Garmon)-finished jeans take inspiration from the qipao (a traditional Chinese dress also known as a cheongsam) and feature visual motifs reminiscent of both countries’ heritage and landscapes on either leg.
The linking of the garment’s two legs to form a wearable pair of jeans is reportedly intended to express the bond of “friendship” between China and San Marino.
Perhaps fittingly, the one-of-one denim article was offered to San Marino’s minister of industry and China’s ambassador to both Italy and San Marino on the day of the new laboratory’s opening.
