Los Angeles-based retailer Ron Herman, owned by Japan’s Sazaby League since 2019, recently presented its autumn-winter 2021 curation of womenswear in Tokyo, which included an edit of Tibetan, Italian, French and local Japanese designers, among others.

Notably, cult streetwear brand Miyagihidetaka offered a preview of a pop-up concept which will feature in four Ron Herman-branded spaces between July and August.

The idea is to encourage customers to bring denim jeans that they no longer wear into a participating store, where they will be remade as bags in collaboration with Miyagihidetaka as part of the two companies’ “Hello again” initiative.

According to local media reports, any resulting denim scraps will be incorporated into future Miyagihidetaka designs.

A spokesperson for Ron Herman in Japan commented: “I want our customers to enjoy the feeling of reuniting with themselves [through upcycling their old clothing] for the first time in a long time.”

Ron Herman currently has over twenty stores in Japan.
