Karachi-headquartered mill Soorty has become the first Pakistani organisation to attain contributor status with the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Roadmap to Zero programme, based in Amsterdam, the denim producer announced recently.

The programme is a collaborative effort intended to support the planet’s ecology by reducing the chemical footprint of companies up and down the textile, apparel and footwear value chains.

Director of operations at Soorty, Asad Soorty, commented: “We are very proud to be one of the frontrunners of the [denim] industry in Pakistan by achieving ‘progressive level’ in the Roadmap to Zero programme.

“By joining the larger ZDHC community, we hope not just to improve ourselves further, but also to build a set of best practices within the Pakistani context for other organisations in our locale to emulate.”
