Soorty and Lenzing release ‘denim athleisure’
Austrian fibre producer Lenzing, the company behind wood-based cellulosic fibre Tencel, has teamed up with Pakistani denim mill Soorty on a “denim athleisure” (a combination of denim, activewear and leisurewear) capsule titled Reload in Blue.

Though based in Karachi, Soorty’s New York design team dreamed up the collection at its new SpaceD showroom in the city’s Flatiron district. The garments were then (in part) made from biodegradable Tencel-branded lyocell fibre at its Corlu, Turkey, lab.

Marketing and communications manager at Soorty, Eda Dikmen, described the capsule’s formation as “driven by purpose”, from the fibre blends chosen to the fabric washes used. Ms Dikmen also told of how the line’s care labels “give hints” as to how to extend each article’s lifecycle.

Meanwhile, director of global business development at Lenzing, Tricia Carey, commented that the collection’s denim pieces and “pyjama alternatives” together represent how “the rich emotion of denim connects to the best moments of life, which Reload in Blue brings together”.

Both companies stated that the project demonstrated what can be achieved in the fashion industry through collaborative and “sustainable” processes. The fruits of their efforts may be viewed in-person by visiting either Soorty’s Flatiron showroom or Lenzing’s office’s in Manhattan’s Garment District.
