Recycled line marks 25 years of Edwin 503s

Japanese denim label Edwin has released an updated version of its signature 503 jeans model, manufactured with recycled materials this time around, to mark 25 years since the style debuted.

Produced at the brand’s Tohoku facility, each pair of 503 Is Blue jeans, as they are called, comes with a 10-year warranty which includes complimentary repairs under the company’s Re:dwin scheme. The line is available in tapered, straight and looser fits.

Designed in line with Edwin’s CO:RE (“cotton recycle”) principles, the fabric is therefore made from a combination of regenerated denim scraps and off-cuts collected at its own factory, in addition to unwanted jeans donated by customers. “Various recycling technologies” are used in the creation of CO:RE denim, according to the brand’s website. The jean pockets are similarly made with recycled cotton, while all tabs, labels and the zipper tape used are recycled polyester.

Efforts to reduce water usage mean that the denim has been washed once only.

An advertising campaign to promote the line stars singer Tortoise Matsumoto, actress and singer Ryoko Hirosue and actor Kenji Sakaguchi (pictured).
