A group of Turkish and Dutch companies are offering one solution with the Solidarity Selvedge project, born during a dinner attended by the Turkish Denim Deal delegation members in Amsterdam just a few days after the event, said James Veenhoff, House of Denim board member.
The members of the collaborative Turkish-Dutch initiative have volunteered to make a limited edition of 1,000 jeans that will be sold for €250 at the Kingpins show this week, the Denim Days Festival and Denim City store, as well as via House of Denim’s Instagram account.
“A wonderful, 100% organic denim fabric was provided by Bossa Denim and it has a dark ‘pepper’ red and cream selvedge in reference to famous produce from the region,” said Romain Narcy, from Ereks-BlueMatters. He added that Bossa, Ereks-BlueMatters, APXpress, Denim City, Jean School and House of Denim all supported this project on a pro-bono basis.
Jean School students designed the fit and House of Denim incubator talents created the ‘Richter Scale Tremor’ stitching that adorns the back pocket.
All proceeds from the sale of these jeans will be used to fund an exchange and education programme set up by House of Denim which will allow a group of Turkish students to follow a tailor-made programme at the Jean School.
