New ‘pocket denim’ from Advance at Intertextile Apparel

Advance Denim, China’s oldest denim mill, debuted its latest jeanswear concept, “pocket denim”, at Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics (Intertextile Apparel) over August 28-30.

Finalised only weeks ago, according to director Michael Lam, this new line of easy-care, anti-wrinkle jeans and denim shorts was inspired by the traveller’s wardrobe. A pair of conveniently packable, 6.5-ounce jean shorts he showed to Inside Denim can simply be rolled back up into their cargo-style front zip pocket, for example, just to the side of the right thigh.

The majority cotton-fibre blend also contains the producer’s coral polyester and elastane. Advance is already pursuing patent protection for the utilitarian-leaning, backpack-appropriate design, Mr Lam told us from inside the booth, located within the fair’s Beyond Denim area.

Further highlights from the exhibit included the company’s Airlock Indigo Soft collection of warp-knitted denims, engineered for improved warmth and ease of movement, which recently ranked among the ISPO Textrends prize-winners for spring-summer 2025. Other standouts were next season’s range of jacquards, plus a selection of showier, sparkly denim jackets and skirts, knobby-woven from indigo yarns and “comfort” Lurex for added pizzazz.
