Pakistan-based textiles manufacturer Interloop is celebrating its latest Higg Index Scores, with its denim plant scoring 69.4 against an industry average of 43.4.

The scores focus on areas including water use, waste management, chemical  handling and energy consumption.

Its hosiery plants one, two and four achieved 76, its hosiery plant three, 74, while its apparel park scored 73.

In striving for high scores, Interloop has implemented water recycling and treatment systems; introduced recycling programmes and waste mapping; set up protocols for safe chemical handling and storage; and invested in energy-efficient technology and renewable energy, it said.

Faryal Sadiq, chief marketing officer at Interloop, said: "Our goal is not only to meet  industry standards but to set new benchmarks for environmental responsibility."

The Higg Index is a standard for evaluating environmental impact and sustainability practices across production facilities, developed by Cascale (formerly Sustainable Apparel Coalition).
