Lycra launches first fibres from 100% textiles waste
The Lycra Company has launched its first EcoMade Fibres made from 100% textiles waste as part of a collaboration with Japanese trading company Itochu.

The versions of Coolmax (cooling) and Thermolite (warming) EcoMade fibres are described the first of  several innovations that The Lycra Company is working on in textile and garment recycling.

A depolymerisation and refining process is used to convert textile waste -  scraps from garment manufacturers - into fibres. Lycra says its properties are comparable to virgin polyester.

Julien Born, chief commercial officer for The Lycra Company, said: “This collaboration exemplifies the synergistic approach we have to develop products and technologies that support a more sustainable future for our vast global customer base.”

These new products can be purchased from The Lycra Company, except in Japan where ITOCHU will be responsible for sales and marketing. Mills will soon begin using the new fibres. The original Coolmax and Thermolite fibres will still be available.
