New traceability solution for Cotton made in Africa
The Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), which manages the Cotton made in Africa (CmiF) standard has announced the launch of a new partnership with Textile Genesis, a traceability solutions company owned by French textile technology group Lectra.

The two companies have been working together since the beginning of the 2024 for AbTF’s The Good Cashmere Standard. The digital system developed Textile Genesis emits blockchain-based Fibercoins which serve as digital twins to trace raw materials as they weave their way through the supply chain. Brands and retailers seeking to use CmiA now have access to two traceability platforms: CmiA’s own SCOT system or Textile Genesis’ which covers a larger network of suppliers.

“By making CmiA cotton traceable through TextileGenesis, we empower brands already utilising TextileGenesis to not only source ethically but also benefit from established tracking tools in their business practices. This collaboration promotes long-term sustainability for farmers, nature and transparency while offering practical options for implementing traceability requirements within the industry,” commented Christian Barthel, business development manager for the Aid by Trade Foundation.
