Refiberd partners with GenuTrace

Tracing the origin of recycled materials is believed to be a barrier to wider adoption of recycled content in apparel. A new partnership between GenuTrace, formerly known as Applied DNA Sciences, and Refiberd, which has developed an advanced sorting system using hyperspectral imaging and AI to identify and separate fibres in complex blends, seeks to offer a solution to the issue.

GenuTrace’s double-layer validation system combines forensic technology with AI to verify the authenticity and origin of fibre, yarn and fabric. Its stable isotope analysis is useful notably to identify the geographic origin of cotton.

“With our AI-enabled hyperspectral system, we can precisely verify cotton-based materials before they’re made into fabric. This validation is the critical foundation for making textile processes scalable and reliable,” commented Sarika Bajaj, Refiberd founder and CEO.

Refiberd won several awards this year. It was named the Global Fashion Agenda Trailblazer and was voted Circular Fashion Innovator of the Year in the CFDA x eBay Circular Fashion Fund.
