Japanese mill creates 20% Brewed Protein denim

Takisada-Nagoya, a Japanese fibre distributor based in Aichi Prefecture, has developed more than 20 new fabric collections with man-made protein fibre developer Spiber, including seven denim fabrics.

The denims have been co-developed with the Japanese denim manufacturer Shiota, based in Okayama, including one with 20% Brewed Protein fiber, the highest composition currently available in denim on the market.

Established in 2007, Spiber is a biotech venture company based in Yamagata, Japan. By harnessing the power of precision fermentation, Spiber engineers proteins at the molecular level, resulting in versatile materials that can be tailored to specific needs.

Spiber has also announced new partnerships with Italian textile and yarn makers Manifattura Sesia and Achille Pinto, which have created blends with wool and silk.

All new developments will be on display at Spiber's booth at shows Pitti Filati and at Milano Unica.
