This season’s trend theme at Bluezone is Nexus, referencing connection, exchange, inspiration and how coming together sparks creativity and new ideas. This notion will be highlighted in a new section launched this year and dedicated to Homegrown Denim Legends. Bluezone intends to celebrate influential denim creators and brands from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The first to be singled out include Loeb Strauss, as Levi’s founder was born in Buttenheim, Germany; Erwin O. Licher, the creator of three German denim brands including Freeman T. Porter; and Ruedi Karrer whose vintage collection originates from both German and former East German denim brands.
In a partnership with Baytech Sustainable Technologies, the show’s Future Fashion Assembly will feature a curated selection of innovative start-ups in the denim industry, with live workshops, buyer roundtables and targeted networking to help bring these novel solutions to market.
A few mills have revealed what they plan to showcase at Bluezone. Tejidos Royo, from Spain, will be presenting its first fabric made from 100% pre-consumer recycled cotton dyed using the company’s DRY Indigo technology. Textile-to-textile recycling will also be a key topic at the booth of Turkey-based Isko with the launch of Recode Denim. Calik Denim, also from Turkey, said it will be presenting a wide range of styles, from hyper-stretch to heritage workwear.
International markets are another key focus for Bluezone, as well as all of Munich Fabric Start’s sections. In ‘Sourcing in Africa’, a project led by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), ten companies from Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco and Senegal will be making the trip to Munich along with three industry associations: AMITH and AMDIE from Morocco and Egypt’s Chamber of Apparel and Home Textiles.
