Vicunha showcases Latin America’s ‘ancestral fashion’
Brazilian denim mill Vicunha has worked with Latin American designers to showcase its fabrics and techniques as part of a collection based on “ancestral fashion”.
Four Colombian designers and one from Brazil created pieces based on their own family or area’s history that were then showcased at Colombiatex in Medellin and Kingpins in Amsterdam.
Marketing manager Maria Angelica Rodriguez Ortiz explained it was a way to show the fabrics in a new way, and capitalises on the “Latin boom”, with the growth in popularity globally of its music and stars.
As part of its wider spring-summer 27 fabric collection, the mill has also presented five concepts: Legacy Touch revives the charm of classic 1990s denim with a soft touch; Flexy Form focuses on high elasticity and lasting fit; Beyond Blues brings a refreshed aesthetic with undyed cotton fabrics; Airsoft emphasises lightness and freshness; while Denim Next features dimensional textures, bold weaves and experimental finishes.
Vicunha employs 6,000, produces 180 million metres of fabric per years and had revenues of BRL 2.4 billion (£340 million) in 2024. It has factories and showrooms in Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Argentina, selling to 4,500 customers worldwide.
