Technology provider Jeanologia has estimated that its 19 H2Zero machines installed at facilities around the world saved about 15.5 million cubic meters of water in 2020, as the water was reused.
H2Zero, launched in 2019, enables 100% of water to be reused and produces no discharge.
Jeanologia CEO Enrique Silla warned that without action, the textiles industry will contribute to then next crisis. “We have had crises throughout history, such as the economic crisis of 1929 or petrol crisis,” he said, “but if we don’t take adequate measures, the next will be a water crisis.”
The Spanish company has signed up to the commitments of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, with one focus SDG6, which concerns water usage.
Mr Silla added: “We want to turn jeans manufacturing into a case study of success that can be translated to other garments.”
