Cordura debuts new durable hemp denim

Following a decade of its “durable denim” technology in the marketplace, Invista brand Cordura has launched a new hemp denim blend alongside Karachi, Pakistan-based mill Artistic Milliners.
Going forward, the aim is to achieve "next-generation" innovation in areas such as durability, strength and added performance, while maintaining a sense of denim heritage and realising sustainability goals, described business development director for the Cordura brand, Cindy McNaull. “This is where hemp comes in,” Ms McNaull said.
Whereas the company’s existing denims offer “built-in resistance” to abrasion and tear due to the incorporation of Invista’s T460 nylon 6,6 staple fibre and cotton, Cordura’s latest hemp denim offering provides enhanced abrasion resistance, tensile and tear strength, owing to hemp’s particular qualities, a press release said.
“We are excited to explore the aesthetic advantages and eco-efficient properties that hemp can bring to Cordura technology developments,” Ms McNaull added.
This spring, Artistic Milliners will lead in the exhibition of Cordura-made durable hemp denim, made with French hemp. Offering two blue stretch denims weighing 11 and 12 ounces apiece, Cordura described the fabric as having a soft comfort handle and the natural slub characteristics of hemp.
