Garmon Chemicals develops safer neutralising agent
Denim industry chemicals supplier Garmon Chemicals, a division of US-based Kemin, has developed a new product to use after bleaching processes. Compared to conventional chemicals used to neutralise bleaching agents, such as potassium permanganate or sodium hypochlorite, the new Avol Orange is said to perform well without generating unpleasant odours nor posing any risk to workers’ health.

Avol Orange replaces common hazardous processes with a safer and more user-friendly alternative that the company says is also cost competitive. It says that sodium metabisulphite and hydroxylamine are often used as neutralising agents, but neither should be inhaled and the second needs to be handled with care as it can explode when exposed to heat.

The new product can be used in conjunction with Avol Oxy White, a potassium permanganate alternative developed by the company based in San Marino.
