Cone aligns itself with Higg’s MSI tool
North Carolina-based mill Cone Denim has linked up with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC)’s Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), in order to offer its customers verifiable Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and comparison data on the specific materials that make up its fabrics, including their environmental impact.
Cone’s owner, Elevate Textiles, became an SAC member back in February and the mill has been using Higg’s tools since 2017.
It said that aligning itself with the Higg MSI would allow it to offer increased transparency and that it has already created custom materials using the tool for spring-summer 2022.
Commenting on the development, Cone’s president, Steve Maggard, stated: “We are excited to be among the first to offer this type of innovation to support our customers’ efforts in designing sustainable products.
“Cone is a strong supporter of industry standardisation and transparency in the sustainability and compliance areas. We continue to explore and advance tools and resources that align with our customers’ goals to design and produce sustainable apparel.”
