Based in Montgomery, Alabama, and founded in 2014, BastCore has developed patent-pending hemp fibre technologies. Its decortication process, a mechanical grinding that separates the fibre from the wood in the stalk, is said to be less harsh on fibres. Its degumming stage removes all non-cellulosic components.
Cone’s U.S. Hemp Collection features classic denim 3×1 twills, fabrics offering comfort stretch and constructions targeting workwear uses. The collection will be shown at Kingpins next week.
“BastCore’s innovation of American hemp opens great opportunities to create sustainable denims made from U.S. sourced agriculture products located in close proximity to Cone’s manufacturing operations in Mexico,” said company president Steve Maggard.
