Wrangler to launch Infinna-rich denim
Kontoor-owned denim brand Wrangler has partnered Finnish textile technology group Infinited Fiber Company to make denim from Infinited’s regenerated textile fibre Infinna, ready for autumn-winter 2021.

Infinna is made from cellulose-rich waste that would otherwise be landfilled or burned -including old textiles, crop residues like rice or wheat straw and cardboard - which is instead broken down to polymer level. Ultimately, a new cellulose carbamate fibre is formed.

Kontoor said that its incorporation of Infinna alongside its own water-saving Indigood initiative, plus Jeanologia’s water-reducing and zero-discharge e-Flow finishing technology and a foam dyeing technology which “lowers wastewater by over 99%”, renders this collection its “most sustainable denim yet”.

Senior director of innovation, sustainability and product development at Kontoor, Dhruv Agarwal, commented: “We believe our work with Infinited Fiber Company and the introduction of Infinna once again raises the bar in terms of environmental performance of our denim products without compromising the comfort and quality consumers expect from Wrangler.

“The introduction of Infinna is an additional fibre complement to cotton and an important step forward in the commercialisation and adoption of circularity in the apparel supply chain.”

Co-founder and chief executive of Infinited Fiber Company, Petri Alava, added: “We are grateful to the Wrangler innovation team for their long-term support, for being one of the early adaptors of Infinna and for turning our innovation into a beautiful denim that will unlock a new level of circularity in the textile industry.”
