SFI showcases natural dyes in second collection
SFI, the Los Angeles-based design studio and laundry owned by Pakistani mill Artistic Milliners, has launched its second capsule collection, this time based on “fashion must-haves”.

The Natural Selection uses Pure Color dyes in combination with laser technology on both PFD (prepared for dyeing) and indigo fabrics.

Pure Color dyes are made from minerals, rocks, sands and soil. The 10 natural colours are applied with a ZDHC/GreenScreen-certified sustainable mordant and the final garments are finished with PureSoft all-natural softeners.

The process requires less energy and less water than standard dyeing with synthetic dyes, said SFI.

It added that the Clear Fade technology recreates the look of a classic bleached or acid-wash jean using a new waterless process that uses a powder rather than chlorine or potassium permanganate. The process uses 32% less water and 16% less energy than conventional acid wash, according to the company, and reduces the EIM score by 32%.

SFI can support brands in design, product development, fabric development and sourcing, as well as garment construction and wash development.

The Natural Selection capsule collection is made with Artistic Milliners fabrics, including several with organic and recycled components. The capsule was cut and sewn at Artistic Milliners’ facility in Karachi and washed at SFI in Los Angeles.
