SFI’s Central America move creates ‘nearshoring network’

Star Fades International (SFI), the LA-based sourcing and design hub owned by Pakistan’s Artistic Milliners, has opened an office in Guatemala to broaden its reach geographically and expand into other clothing categories such as tops and bottoms.

It claims trade agreements offer time and cost savings for US companies looking to move manufacturing closer to the point of sale, with fabric sourced in the US, Mexico or Central America.

Alejandro Arias, SFI’s vice-president of sourcing in Central America, said: “There is extensive apparel production skill and experience across Central America, not just in denim, but also a wide range of garments. SFI’s nearshoring network allows brands and retailers to make strategic sourcing decisions that maximise flexibility and minimise risk.”

He claims the network can save six to seven weeks’ transportation time for US brands compared with producing in Asia.

SFI has a digital product creation team, as well as partnerships with 3D design software companies Browzwear and CLO, to assist retailers and brands develop and adjust samples digitally.
