Long read: BPD Washhouse shows faith in pumice alternative
In the latest article from our Factory Talk series, US-based laundry and design hub BPD Washhouse tells us about a new collaboration with Baytech, the maker of an alternative option to traditional pumice stones called Hand Made Stone (HMS).

HMS combines waste dust from Turkish quarries with a bio-based resin, saying this makes the stones much more durable, resulting in little sludge or dust and meaning less water and energy can be used in the wash cycle.

Bill Curtin, founder of BPD, said stronger demand for alternatives to pumice may come from manufacturers. “If you give them the result they want and then tell them that you’re doing something that is leaning into sustainability, they will be happy,” he said.
