Baytech named Techstyle for Social Good winner

Baytech-HMS, maker of a more durable and sustainable alternative to pumice for denim washing, has been awarded first prize in the Techstyle for Social Good Global Innovation Challenge organised by The Mills Fabrica.

Selected from more than 150 applicants, the company was chosen as one of eight finalists from Brazil, Hong Kong, Thailand and the UK.

Baytech-HMS's stones prevent the production of sludge in textile washing. Patented by the company's chief technology officer, Yavuz Baykan, the stones create a variety of washes and effects. Originally produced for denim, they can also be used for knitted and woven fabrics.

Beyza Baykan, CEO of Baytech-HMS, said: "We are incredibly proud to have won this prestigious award. This is a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability. We are proud that HMS is helping to make the fashion industry more environmentally friendly.”

The Techstyle for Social Good Global Innovation Challenge is an annual competition that recognises innovative solutions to sustainability challenges in fashion and agriculture. The grand prize includes mentorship from leading sustainable company Pangaia, free office space in London and incubation by The Mills Fabrica, which will provide support and resources to accelerate the growth of Baytech-HMS.
