Goldschmied confirmed for HMS’s London event
HMS (Hand Made Stone), the pumice alternative provider, has announced Adriano Goldschmied as the guest speaker at its event at The Mills Fabrica in London on May 7.
'Denim After the Loom: The Hidden Impact of Washing' will bring together industry figures to address one of the most overlooked aspect of denim's environmental footprint, the washing process.
While sustainable materials receive significant attention, the finishing techniques that create denim's distinctive character remain largely unchanged and can be environmentally destructive, said HMS managing director Beyza Baykan, adding that a single mid-sized manufacturing plant can generates approximately 1,800,000 kg of pumice sludge monthly.
She said: "What happens after the loom determines both the aesthetic quality of denim and its environmental impact. Our event aims to expose this hidden crisis while showcasing solutions that deliver authentic vintage aesthetics without the environmental damage."
The evening will feature a keynote address by denim educator and consultant Mohsin Sajid on the evolution of washing techniques; a panel discussion moderated by Mohsin Sajid with Adriano Goldschmied, designer-influencer Federico Barengo and Blackhorse Lane's wash lab manager Leanne Jae; and demonstrations of HMS's washing alternatives.
HMS's technology creates an alternative to standard pumice using upcycled quarry dust bound by polymers. It is currently part of The Mills Fabrica Incubation Programme in London after been awarded first prize in the Techstyle for Social Good Global Innovation Challenge. The company is a registered vendor of Levi's and Kontoor Brands.
The event’s sponsors are Bossa, Master Textile Mills, YKK and Minority Denim.
