AGI embroiders denim with braille writing

Pakistani denim producer Artistic Garment Industries (AGI Denim) celebrated the fourth ever annual World Braille Day in early January by making 40 kimono-style denim jackets embroidered with “uplifting” braille messages.
The project was undertaken in partnership with fellow Karachi-based organisation NOWPDP, a disability inclusion body which AGI Denim also worked with to induct several new disabled employees recently as part of its #100Days100Lives initiative.
“Dealing with sight loss is already a challenge. Add to this the lack of emotional support at health centres, limited access to activities and information, societal stigma and lack of employment - all factors frequently leading blind or low vision individuals to feel isolated,” the denim manufacturer commented.
Each jacket was distributed among the local visually impaired community, AGI said, adding that the production process behind each garment was “sustainable”.
Citing an unspecified survey from 2017, AGI also remarked that there are believed to be more than 1.1 million visually impaired persons in Pakistan, among a population of over 220 million.
