AGI Denim named Pakistan’s ‘first’ B Corp

Karachi-based Artistic Garment Industries (AGI Denim) has announced that it has become the “first” Pakistani company to attain B Corporation (B Corp) certification.

The denim producer scored 91.4 points following UK-based B Lab’s impact assessment, it told Inside Denim, well beyond the minimum score of 80 points. The company began the process in 2019.

“We have always worked hard to become part of something greater than ourselves,” commented the mill’s executive director, Ahmed Javed. “Denim can become a force for good, even though it didn’t start that way. Through B Corp, we now have the opportunity to shed a different light on how the world views denim.

"We’re thrilled to join this global collective of corporations fuelled with a common purpose of laying focus on people, communities and the planet.”

On joining fellow B Corps around the world, AGI Denim has formally embedded a commitment to the concept of “purpose beyond profit” across its entire ecosystem.

Executive director at B Lab UK, Chris Turner, described welcoming the manufacturer into the fold as “an exciting moment”. He suggested that there was now scope for AGI Denim to “lead the way within the denim industry”.
