Diesel owner sales up 18% in 2021
In its financial report for 2021, Diesel owner OTB Group says it has returned to pre-pandemic sales levels with “significant improvements in earnings and margins”.

The Breganze-based fashion group reported net sales of €1.456 billion, up 18% from 2020, an increase it says was driven by the company’s luxury labels, Marni Maison Margiela, Jil Sander and Viktor & Rolf.

2021 was the first year full with Glenn Martens at the creative helm of Diesel. The group noted that this move has already had a positive impact on the brand’s image, paving “the way for a new phase of development designed to position the brand in the alternative luxury segment.” The Belgian fashion designer was named Diesel creative director in October 2020. Based in Paris and Breganze, Mr Martens is also creative director of experimental fashion brand Y/Project, and was guest designer for Jean-Paul Gaultier’s couture collection for SS 2022.

In 2021, OTB officially launched its “Be responsible. Be brave.” sustainability platform and announced plans to make the group's own operations achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. It will be releasing its first Corporate Carbon Footprint and first Sustainability Report in 2022.

“2021 was a richly satisfying year during which we reached – and in some cases beat – all our targets in particularly challenging economic and social conditions. In 2021 we decided to re-organise the governance of the supply chain, which is now fully under our responsibility. We are determined that, increasingly, growth will be zero impact, and in July we shall be presenting our first sustainability report to illustrate the results achieved in the year since the launch of the “Be Responsible. Be Brave.” strategy. It will also lay out the route towards attainment of all the targets we have set in terms of the safeguard of the planet, the attention to products and our social impact on the community,” commented OTB CEO Ubaldo Minelli.
