After intensive testing and trials throughout 2021, the first collection and production runs of products treated with Lumia, the company’s innovative ozone-activated fading solution, have been launched. Results show that Lumia is one of the most efficient fading processes for jeans washing, replacing hypochlorite bleach and permanganate, the company says.
Lumia Dye takes the concept one step further. Applied after selective dyeing, Lumia Dye gives garments a natural vintage look typical of authentic signs of wear. “Garments will have a faded aspect on the outside and will be darker on the inside, like an item of clothing worn for many years and then forgotten somewhere,” says Luca Braschi, denim laundry expert and consultant for Soko. “Also in this case, not a single drop of permanganate or hypochlorite, no cationised dyeing, is required, just Lumia Dye activated by Ozone. LUMIA DYE + ozone = the new age of vintage colour.”
Like Soko’s Lumia fading solution, the new Lumia Dye can be applied locally or on a full garment, offering versatility and flexibility. When ozone is applied, it activates the fading reaction. In just a few minutes, the company says, the colour will begin to age.
“Because the resulting look is not due to a dyeing process or type of dye (cationic dyes for instance), colour fastness will not be compromised,” says Mr Braschi. “Our first Lumia showed the way, and now ozone applied in dry conditions can be used as an activator to fade colour. We believe our Lumia Dye is the future of vintage used dyed looks.”
Soko Chimica will be exhibiting at Kingpins Amsterdam in April, BD Denim Expo in May and Denim PV Berlin in May.
