New water-saving process at Soorty
At PV Denim in Berlin, Pakistan-based mill and manufacturer Soorty has introduced a water-saving process it is calling Cascara, which is the Spanish term for the shell of seeds or skin of fruits and vegetables.

Soorty says this new process complies with ZDHC and bluesign, eliminates the need for pre- and post-dyeing washers on rope, does not require any caustic soda pre-treatment and reacts well to dry finishing treatments. Overall it is said to save an average of 28,815 gallons of water per day, in addition to releasing cleaner wastewater.

As part of its mission to reduce its impacts, Soorty is also in the process of measuring them through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) covering fibre to garment finishing. The capsule collection the company has designed as part of this LCA includes paint-splattered jeans to show that sustainability doesn’t have to be boring.
