Located in the Karachi-adjacent city of Hub in Balochistan, the commercial value of the roughly 185 square-metre space is just under $300,000 or 60 million Pakistani rupees, the company said.
Moving forward, the building will be used as an Aga Khan laboratory and medical centre, intended to provide residents of Hub and its surroundings with nearby diagnostic and medical facilities. This means that they will no longer need to travel into Karachi from the relatively remote area to receive such services.
President of Aga Khan University, Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, himself present during the handover ceremony, reportedly thanked Siddiqsons for its “noble and philanthropic gesture” and vowed to provide Hub locals with “the best health and medical facilities”.
Other attendees included Siddiqsons’ chairman, Muhammad Tariq Rafi, plus company chief executive, Abdur Rahim, along with their wives.
Established in 1959, Siddiqsons entered the spinning and denim fabric production businesses during the 1980s. It has since branched out into other sectors including energy, tinplate manufacturing and property development.
