Ganni explores zero waste design with Stem
Danish fashion and denim label Ganni has teamed up with fellow Copenhagen-based design studio Stem to develop a circular collection that significantly reduces offcut waste. An extension of the brand’s circularity strategy, the three-piece capsule line was launched to coincide with the Global Fashion Agenda Summit earlier this month.

Stem founder and textile designer Sarah Brunnhuber focuses on rethinking apparel production starting with the way fabrics are woven. Working with specially engineered woven fabrics, her unique cutting and sewing technique uses the entire fabric, eliminating all cutting and sewing waste. Each item is made from 100% certified organic cotton. The removable buttons increase the chance that the product can be fully recycled in existing used garment treatment facilities.

“Sarah is such a talented designer and her zero-waste system is so inspiring. I love how the fabric informs the design with all the playful fringes. Her approach to fashion proves that good design and responsibility can go hand in hand. We definitely share that vision and I am super excited about having worked together on this collection,” commented Ganni creative director Ditte Reffstrup who cofounded the brand with her husband Nicolaj Reffstrup.

In its journey towards more sustainable and transparent practices in fashion, Ganni has reached 100% traceability on Stage 1 to 4 of its supply chain. The company has also shared its Stage 1 and 2 suppliers in the Open Apparel Registry.
