CSM denim project concludes with praise

Further to students’ final presentations late last month, denim designer, educator and consultant Mohsin Sajid has described his recent five-week project with thirty Central Saint Martins (CSM) second-year menswear students as having “gone deeper” than any other he has worked on over the past seventeen years of teaching.
The students had been tasked with creating a full outfit out of denim, inspired by themes of craft, innovation and authenticity.
Industry-led, the course was taught by Mr Sajid alongside designers and consultants Sue Barrett and Miles Johnson, with support from CSM staff members Ike Rust and Louis Loizou.
Representatives from industry sponsors including Orta, Denim Privé, Isko, YKK, Advance Denim, Soorty and Kipas were all present to observe the presentations, as were designers Malin Ekengren and Ame Pearce.
Mr Sajid thanked sponsors, which included Inside Denim, for their input. In some cases, sponsors had gone above and beyond by meeting with students virtually over Zoom, inviting participants to visit their facilities in-person and even helping them better understand laser technologies and eco-friendlier denim treatments, he added.
An intensive, four-week follow-up programme is now expected to run at CSM in January.
