Naia Renew to embrace Circulose
Renewcell, a Swedish company that makes Circulose pulp from used garments, has signed a Letter of Intent with US-based Eastman, the producer of cellulosic acetate fibre marketed for fashion applications under the brand name Naia.

It marks a first agreement with a US-based fibre producer for Renewcell and a new end-market for its Circulose pulp. The innovative 100% recycled cellulose pulp has been used to make manmade cellulosic fibres by Tangshan Sanyou and Yibin, in China. The Swedish company has also formed partnerships with European producers Kelheim, in Germany, and HeiQ, in Austria. It also recently signed a Letter of Intent with Japanese producer Daiwabo Rayon. Earlier this year, Levi Strauss & Co launched its iconic 501s in a blend of Circulose and organic cotton.

Eastman developed its own Advanced Circular Recycling technology in 2019. It is capable of processing difficult to treat waste and includes single-use plastics, textiles and carpets. Its Naia Renew fibres are made from a blend of 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40% recycled waste plastics, certified mass balance by International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC).

Eastman Textiles general manager Ruth Farell commented: ”We are thrilled to collaborate with a pioneer such as Renewcell to lower our reliance on virgin feedstocks, redefine the essence of textile waste and close the loop within the textiles industry. This collaboration is at the heart of our strategy to launch a portfolio of products with increased recycled content.”
