Turkish denim producer Isko’s Creative Room London has collaborated with US fashion retailer Urban Outfitters’ utility-inspired BDG sublabel on a ten-piece collection finished with designs created by artist Dwayne Coleman, who lives and works in the British capital.

The line-up incorporates recycled cotton yarns from cutting waste, including one “innovative” style which uses zero virgin cotton fibres. It follows circular design principles and consequently features minimal metal trims and removable shank buttons to facilitate easier end-of-life recycling.

Isko reported that its “denim scientists” had specially developed lower-impact washes for each of the ten articles, to generate a lower chemical, water and energy footprint. BDG typically employs Jeanologia’s EIM (environmental impact measurement) software to assess its finishing processes.

Urban Outfitters’ senior head of buying and wholesale, Cherie Nelson, said working with Isko had allowed the business “to delve into sustainability even further for our denim ranges”.

On behalf of Isko, head of product development, Melissa Clement, expanded: “We hold a shared core value and goal in creating denim garments and collections that remain desirable to shoppers, without having to compromise on design, style, quality or lifespan of the garment, while also protecting our environment and planet.”

The collection is due to launch online and in key European Union locations beginning July 10.
