Isko shows fully recycled 2024 collection

Turkish denim mill Isko unveiled a suite of fabrics made exclusively from recycled pre-consumer cotton, recycled polyester and regenerated cellulose fibre at industry trade show Denim Première Vision in Milan in late November.

The producer also presented its newest line of Paolo Gnutti-designed experimental, premium denims, part of the Isko Luxury by PG range, at the same event.

Known as Ctrl+Z in a nod to the “undo” or reverse function in computing, the eco-minded collection meets Global Recycled Standard requirements, Isko said, with a look and hand-feel “identical” to denim made using virgin resources. The manufacturer claims that the fabrics can outperform both conventional and recycled denims already on the market, owing to their combined abrasion, tear resistance and tensile strength, meaning that it expects Ctrl+Z denims will have a longer lifespan and thus a lower environmental impact on the whole.

As noted within its latest sustainability report, in which several targets pertaining to wastewater and chemicals were brought forward, Isko already has capacity to mechanically recycle cotton and thermo-mechanically process polyester from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles in-house. It further aims to be able to thermo-chemically recycle polycotton blends over the next three years, plus recycle polyester textiles chemically in the long-term.

These latest fabrics form part of volume one of Isko’s 2024 collection, which offers rigid, stretch and comfort fits in fresh textures and volumes, in addition to fabrics more suited to a vintage or “second-hand” aesthetic.
