Presented as a state-of-the-art lab, it will be investigating a wide array of smart and sustainable farming practices. New devices and technologies to test soil health and optimise water usage through moisture metres will be reviewed. The research centre will also look into all techniques related to better farming, including tillage, nutrient management, drip irrigation, and biological pest control, such as identifying and developing fungi and bacteria that can serve as natural pesticides. It also plans to produce high quality organic seeds, in a programme with PhD researchers.
Promoting biodiversity is also part of the programme with the creation of a new garden and a tree plantation scheme. Finally, the lab will also have an educational purpose and will open its doors to local schools, “to inspire the next generation of farmers,” the company says.
