Raw denim couture from GapStudio

Raw denim graced the Met Ball’s red carpet as actress Laura Harrier debuted a custom look by Zac Posen, designed in the GapStudio in New York City.
The look combines raw, natural denim, shank buttons and double-needle stitching, with elongated trousers cut in double-face duchess silk satin. Voluminous sheer sleeves in cotton organdie add softness and airiness.
This marks Posen’s first Met Gala creation to feature trousers, a symbolic choice aligned with the evening’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
“Dandyism was both a form of rebellion and a uniform of entry,” said Posen. “I wanted to honour that dichotomy by applying a sculptural technique to tailoring—treating a pant look with the reverence I typically reserve for a gown.”
The design was also informed by archival family photographs of Harrier’s father and grandfather in their Sunday best.
GapStudio launched in April with Collection 01, rooted in tailoring, modern silhouettes and limited-edition drops, with an aim to “bring artistry and accessibility into the global style conversation”.
“GapStudio is where craftsmanship, creativity and culture come together. Inside Gap’s New York HQ, we’ve built a creative studio where I’ve designed looks for the red carpet, and where we’ll continue to collaborate with visionary talent in the future,” added Posen. “GapStudio Collection 01 reflects that vision, blending tailoring with innovative denim treatments that sculpt and refine the fabric in new ways. This is just the beginning."
At last year’s Met Gala, Mr Posen dressed Da'Vine Joy Randolph in a couture gown that paid homage to Gap’s classic 1969 denim.
