Ravensbourne: New talent and fresh ideas
The winners of the annual Ravensbourne University London Denim Innovation & Collaboration Project have been announced, the culmination of a 10-week project using fabric from sponsors Candiani, Bossa and Isko.
The project combines the skillsets of the BA (Hons) Fashion and BA (Hons) Fashion Buying & Brand Management students, working in teams to create a denim brand, considering the market, circularity, branding and promotion. Photography students work alongside the fashion teams to shoot their products.
Thida Hawkins, fashion course leader at Ravensbourne, said: “Although students can find it challenging to navigate, collaboration is integral to work in the creative industries. Whether this is with your colleagues, complementary disciplines, suppliers or other external stakeholders, mastering teamwork is the key to professional success.”
The winning teams were named as:
• Overall winner: Baseline
• Marketing and branding: Werkwear
• Concept Award: Untamed
• Commerce Award: Baseline
• Circularity Award: MKR5
• Materiality: Remnant
• Photography: Naima Oma, with Immi Taylor highly commended
The judges were James Desmond from Rivet and Hide, denim consultant Mohsin Sajid, branding specialist Matt Duckett, creative consultant AMC Newton, Gab Magopat from Cone Denim and Jon Gormley from Isko.
Gurmit Matharu, fashion programme director at Ravensbourne University London, said: "Students need to understand how the industry is evolving and how clients are thinking. By embedding sustainability at the core of Denim Innovation, we aim for our students to drive change in the industry. They must be equipped to absorb this knowledge, apply it in the workplace and shift perspectives.”
